As well as being a children’s author, Billy Bob Buttons (the pen name of Edward H Trayer) is also an English teacher and he has considerable experience of delivering workshops all over the country.
Normally, he spends mornings and/or afternoons in a school. In the case of primary schools he predominantly visits years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and
spends one or two hours working with students in each class. In secondary schools, he tends to do workshops in the library during lunchtime or work with students in English lessons. The workshops vary depending on the needs of the school, but can include the importance of narrative, developing a memorable character from scratch, how to build excitement, writing a story with historical setting and how to incorporate myths and legends in a story.
Over the last two years, Edward has visited over 150 schools all over England. If you think your school might be interested in participating in a literacy workshop, you can contact him directly at thewishingshelf@yahoo.com.

I got the impression that he had sussed out the tricky kids in the class and knew exactly how to handle them. The amount of children who bought Edward’s book was testament enough to his popularity!

The children were really responsive and clearly inspired, and I feel sure the proof will be in the results of future writing tasks.
